Dr. Naomi Roberson’s life is a true survival story. Raised in a violent and unstable home, Roberson found the strength to carry on with her life after enduring childhood abuse, and incest.
Growing up in a housing project in Chicago, IL., Roberson is the seventh of eleven children. Along with her mother and siblings, Roberson was physically and emotionally abused by her father, who was a long-time drug addict, alcoholic and career criminal. Unable to end the cycle of violence, Roberson watched helplessly as some of her brothers and sisters began modeling their father's behavior, turning into drug addicts, career criminals, pedophiles, alcoholics, and abusive parents and spouses. Some of the older siblings molested some of the younger ones.
In adulthood, the cycle of violence in Roberson’s life continued as she entered into abusive relationships. She moved from apartment to apartment, job to job, one relationship to another as she searched for peace of mind. Roberson sought the help of therapy, but was too ashamed to reveal her dark past.
Only after marrying a wonderful husband, finding salvation and the birth of her son that faith, family and education brought a great sense of happiness, spiritual fulfillment, and a meaningful purpose for life. As a born-again Christian and an ordained minister, Roberson relied on her belief in God to heal and restore meaning to her life. She completed her college education by earning an associate degree in accounting, a bachelor's degree in behavioral science, a master's degree in management/human resources and doctorates in organizational psychology and divinity. Dr. Roberson is also a certified television producer/director and has worked in the media of television and radio. She has also had successful careers in accounting, management, business administration and modeling
Today, Roberson is a motivational speaker and a talk show host for Access Television in Chicago, Illinois where she's been for the past 16 years. She also produces, directs and writes documentaries, award shows, public service announcements and interviews for local television. She works as a women's counselor for other women who have also suffered from domestic violence and who have spent years suffering in silence.
Roberson has recently authored a book, After Daddy Died (Outskirts Press, Inc.), March 2008, 978-1-4327-1951-7, $14.95, in an effort to motivate and encourage other victims of abuse. Roberson openly shares her experience growing up in an abusive home, the lasting effects of family violence from childhood to adulthood and how she was able to overcome the demons of her past. Dr. Roberson is a survivor!
