C&B BOOKS, was started in 1995, by Carol Rogers & Brenda Piper. The motivation behind this book business, was the lack of affordable books written by black authors. We decided to become an asset to our Youth and the African American community in a whole. We offer our books for less then the major stores, we knew this would provide our readers with a wider variety of reading material. We have, titles for all ages in all catagories, fiction, non-fiction, spiritual, inspirational, educational etc.

JULY 2007 NEWSLETTER

**MARC'S WEEKLY MUSE** - July 6th, 2007

A highly requested poetic medium of uplift...to brighten your day!!!

Okay people, it has been a mad promotional push since the release of Rock and Fire. But at the same time - a blessed grind. The summer calendar is jam packed with events (God is good). Of course the wear and tear does have an impact on artistic creation...but all in all, it is a necessary duty.

**ROCK AND FIRE BOOK RELEASE IN BIRMINGHAM THIS SUNDAY...
That's right! AVO Publishing in conjunction with The Writer's Block will unveil Rock & Fire to The Magic City with the aid of music, models, and spoken word! The High Note Lounge will be in full effect as festivities will jump off at 8pm as the doors open at 7.
Question: Marc, if I do not like to order online, what stores are selling your books?
Answer: Charlotte, NC: Dynasty Books
Atlanta, GA: Medu Bookstore, Nubian Bookstore
Dayton, OH: Kana's Cds and Books
Houston, TX: Shrine of The Black Madonna
Boca Raton, FL: Pyramid Books
Upland, CA: Heritage Books and More
Toronto, Canada: Knowledge Bookstore
Killeen, TX: Under One Roof

More stores will be listed next week...

*Don't forget to place those Rock and Fire reviews on amazon.

*INTRO*
*******
Like The Ohio Players... The funkiness within my lyrics when read casts you into hysterics like Sugafoot singin' 'bout love rollercoasters for the pen cap is the holster but it won't shield you from the poetical fire as the duration of the rhyme transpires... As firm is the funky worm 'cause a Gemini's mind constantly churns words that are skin tight makin' you cop a plea imprisoned within the prose yellin' "I want to be free"...

***************
*MARKETING 101*
***************
We live in a world that pushes promotions... But unfortunately it's not what you're promoting... It's how much money you put into promoting anything... Money sings as some marketing firms could care less about content... And show no relent about the amount of money being spent by the client... The philosophy is: push it hard and people will buy it... If one or two consume then more will be willing to try it...

************
*PUBLISHING*
************

The yearn for one wanting to get published is at an all time high... But at the same time, the fire which burns on the inside tends to take a ride once the burden of work and responsibility are realized... Being an author is a full time gig (when done correctly)... And each time an author half-steps during the process is a reflection on others...nonetheless... You CAN do it... and do it right... You have to be willing to stay the course and remain on that literary battlefield, learn, and fight...to learn more...

*********
*ON TOUR*
*********

The road tends to pose major threats to ones sanity... But a level of toughness often becomes manifest even through recognizing vanity... My advice: Although every experience will not yield an immediate return on investment, The seeds planted today will produce crops for tomorrow which in turn are a testament of the blessings of God Almighty... As grueling as it can get understand that you've not seen the best yet... So just hang in there be tough stop look listen and learn... Hey...you'll get your turn!

***************
*SIGNING BOOKS*
***************

Okay, just say that you're not as popular as you thought you were before you decided to sign at a certain store... It's not meant to be a chore... But what are you going to do? Sitting and wishing sends your mind fishing in fantasy waters where trout are not biting... So stand up Walk and talk to a stranger and let them know that you are the composer and arranger of a literary masterpiece... Yes YOU! You are a walking p/r vessel and a pitch maker... If you don't give of you then there may not be any takers...

Derek Press, a subsidiary of Pathway Press, announces the release of a new children's book

Derek Press, a subsidiary of Pathway Press, announces the release of a new children's book entitled THE ISLAND OF ABANDONED DREAMS, by Nneka A. Gunn. This book contains the legendary tale of a young boy who must choose between deserting his dream forever or venturing on a dangerous journey to rescue his destiny.

Do you ever wonder where abandoned dreams go? Well, when you cease to believe, your dreams cease to exist. In THE ISLAND OF ABANDONED DREAMS, Gunn addresses the need for young children to continually strive to achieve their dreams and aspirations. In today's world, children encounter many hurdles that may threaten their dreams such as bullies, sex, drugs, poverty, and lack of support from parents. But if they persevere, Gunn believes, they can and will accomplish their goals.

THE ISLAND OF ABANDONED DREAMS is the incredible legend of Elijah, a courageous boy who undertakes a feat no other human has survived, rescuing his dream from the shadowy and forlorn island where forgotten dreams go. Set in a village in Manakara, the orphaned Elijah is raised by his wise grandmother, Mahlii. One day, Elijah returns home, discouraged from his dream of becoming a famous soccer player by school bullies. Mahlii recounts the story of the Island of Abandoned Dreams and prepares him for a mission he will never forget. The reader will share the adventure as Elijah makes the trek to save his dream from the four-armed monster that guards every crystallized dream.

Illustrated by Riccardo Williams, this vivid storybook sparks the child's imagination with a message they can fully comprehend and enjoy. While THE ISLAND OF ABANDONED DREAMS imparts wisdom and guidance to today's youth, this is no dull preachy read. This amazing story is chock-full of all the elements kids love: mythical monsters, magical tools, perilous excursions, and a helpful animal friend. THE ISLAND OF ABANDONED DREAMS is a must for children and readers of all ages as a tool of encouragement to withstand the trials that come before success. This moving tale of triumph is sure to entertain and inspire children, and adults, for generations to come.

In MargueritePress@yahoogroups.com, "MARC SMITH" wrote:

I feel the need to warn all of my fellow writers about a rip-off being perpetuated under the guise of "marketing." I am referring to a company called Airleaf Book Selling Services out of Martinsville, Indiana. I first encountered these folks at a book festival last year, and decided to purchase services from them when my third novel was released this past fall. Yes, their literature looks inviting, and the packages they outline sound great, but beware. They have basically taken my money and done nothing to earn it. Services that were promised have been slow in coming, there is no regular communication from them on the status of my campaign, and now they won't even respond to my e-mails.

There are many legitimate promotional services and sites out there that will actually deliver on what they promise, but this IS NOT one of them. If you seek out professional help to market and promote your books, don't make the same mistake I did by not checking them out thoroughly first.

Thank you,
Tim Smith

About Baton Rouge:

Baton Rouge is located at 458 WEST 145 Street Between Amsterdam and Convent Avenue. Baton Rouge phone number is 212-281-2336

Owner Joseph Barnes States " Once again our institutions serve our needs, we have four floors that can be utilized without interfering into the normal restaurant operations.

Various organizations, business and groups take advantage of our networking Thursdays, to get the word out about their services, new business opportunities or simply to meet like-minded professionals.

Professionals are heartened that there is a place within the community that can offer such a service. Different institutions are highlighted weekly, be sure to call to discuss highlighting your business, institution or project.

Baton Rouge sits over Club New Orleans, in a beautifully renovated sandstone building, in the style of a New Orleans Bordello. There are feathers, Mardi Gras masks, mood lighting and trussed corsets aplenty.

This is a room that will make anyone familiar with New Orleans sense a feeling of Down home. The music is contemporary, New Orleans Jazz and Zydeco. You can't eat the music but you will rave about the food.

They serve the best seafood gumbo that I have ever had in New Orleans or elsewhere in the United States, easily the best in New York City.

The Pecan Crusted Catfish in Praline Sauce is tearfully memorable and the Slow Roasted Herb Crusted Lamb Chops with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Creamed Spinach will transport you to another world.

Try the Hurricanes, which will remind you of Bourbon Street. The tableside flambe demonstration of Bananas Foster is not to be missed. We highly recommend.

In addition, The Power Networking Series has committed to bringing the Power Networking Series uptown to Harlem to continue the economic renaissance that Harlem is currently experiencing.

It is the goal of the Power Networking Series to strengthen the human, economic, social, political, and spiritual ties uptown in Harlem to spur economic growth and create the social fabric the foster growth in small business.
