Marketing Opportunity
Hello fellow authors,
In the publishing industry I am certain that you have become well acquainted with how costly advertising, marketing and the
ultimate, exposure can be; Also, the recurring rejection from vendors. After publishing for 3 years and spending more than
$30,000 in advertising, I have learned to advertise smarter and incur growth and not expense. One of the many opportunities I
will present to you for 2003 is joint catalog advertising. By combining our dollars, we can introduce our titles to these same
vendors in a more appealing and professional manner. Keep in mind that presentation is everything in this business. Sales are
predicated on initial perception. Major publishing houses know this, which is why they spend so much in advertising. I would
like to extend some of their strategies to each of you not individually, but as one unit. How? By putting together a color catalog
with all of our titles featured in a very professional manner. These catalogs will also give you an opportunity to reach book
clubs, libraries and other book buyers.
Second and most important, we fail to reach our true targetCustomers. Let me assure you that selling 10 books to 5000
vendors will not help you reach your goal. If customers are not buying your books, then you are not making money. These
books will be returned to distributors if they are not selling and you may not get a second chance to get vendors to stock your
books. With this thought in mind, we want these books to go to our target Readers. Win the readers and gain
the vendors.
Unless you have big bucks to launch a major marketing campaign, this is a feasible opportunity that will make a difference.
Many of you may not have gotten into the Barnes & Noble, B Dalton, K-Mart, Walden Books, and Borders chains, but if
demand insist upon it, vendors will seek your work to fulfil demand. The way to catch a killer is through his prey. Control the
industry by its customers.
Have I gotten through yet? Good! Now you are ready for what I have to offer. Bear in mind that this is an estimated cost for
this project and it is predicated on participation. So feel free to pass this information to other self-published authors you know.
I am asking for $200 for each title featured in the catalog. This is a sample of what your listing will look like (excluding any
background graphics and coloring):
Kurt Daley, an aspiring writer gets more than she bargains for when her favorite bestselling author hands
her a possession he is dying to pass on. Now the new protégé will have to fulfill her destiny and write the
greatest best seller evera dreadful tale that reaches out and touches everyone close to her. It isnt long
before the accomplished writer finds herself living out a perilous tale of her own. What if you knew that
every page you wrote brought you closer to your end.
Six of these will fit on each page. So unlike other organizations that offer you multiple page advertisements and exorbitant
prices, I have made it fair and feasible for everyone. This is meant to be informative and not competitive.
People, this is only the beginning. I have opened up a great deal of advertisement and marketing opportunities that will get the
job done that will get you the attention you deserve. What you can not afford alone, we can do together. There is enough room
for all of us; we represent less than 16% of the literary industry not Afro-American industry but the entire literary industry
including white America. Lets go get them. If you are interested, please send me an email at: [email protected] with
2003 marketing Catalog in the subject line. I hope that you are all visionaries and embark on this sincere and powerful
opportunity. I look forward to our joint venture.

Atlanta Self-Published Author's Support Group
A few self-published authors and myself have decided to organize an Atlanta Self-Published Author's Support Group. Our mission is to consolidate our efforts in putting ourselves on tour together to promote our books nationwide and to encourage booksellers and distributors to shelve our books. We are also using CB Books as the premiere online website for African-American titles.
Could you please send a group e-mail asking all self-published authors in the Atlanta area who are interested in participating in forming a support group for this purpose to contact Beverly Rolyat. My email is: [email protected] .
This support group is for ALL genre (contemporary, Christian, fiction, nonfiction, etc., for Adult and Childrens books).
We also welcome those self-published authors in the surrounding areas to participate (NC, SC, Alabama, Tennessee).
We strongly feel that this approach will highly increase sales volume with CB Books.
