Being a woman is like being locked in a transparent ball
A never ending circle of no beginnings or endings
And no one hears our call
Being a woman sometimes feel like a rat trap
That cramps down on the very essence of our being
Taking us through living nightmares that men have never seen
We must be beautiful,Thin and tall
But the demands are endless,Because that's not all
Be poised,Stand straight,Pretty pretty pretty
Is a lady's pass through this life's pearly gate
Speak well,Be educated
Fight through this world or stand there naked
Naked of pride, integrity or dreams
Leaving us void in our silent screams
Be polite,Don't talk foul
As if this world didn't teach us how
Be smart,Be witty, the perfect entertainment piece
And not one seems to care
That our pillow is our only release
Everybody's looking to go half on something
They want us to give all,And they give nothing
They want us to invest our hearts, our souls
The very essence of our being
They want us to take them places that they have never seen
Never mind paying,We must now take up the check
This is the nineties girl and I ain't finished yet
Be girlfriend, mother, family woman and wife
If you can't be all, He thinks he's wasting his life
Best friends,Party girl, Career and pretty curl
Chest out,Tummy in,Remember thin thin thin
24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Time just goes and goes and you still haven't gotten any sleep
Hold on to your seat girl, The best part is yet to come
Because before the night is over, He's still gonna want some
This is where we must scream and pant
Melting from his touch, Because his fragile egos
Really ain't worth that much
With all this going on trying to remember to breathe
The cycle of the circle closes in on us
And must still replant the seed
Being a woman is like being locked in a transparent ball
A never ending circle of no beginning or endings
And no one hears our call.

Gangsta

A Hustler Wife
Nikki Turner
The Titles have sky rocketed off the site and I would like to pay tribute to these young outstanding author's who made a major change in their lives; became productive writers sharing street life experiences through their story telling We may hide from the facts about street life however these authors have taken a stand to not hide from society what we all know exsist, (Crime, Drugs, Gangs,Murder) The time has come for us to pay attention to what is going on in our communities.
Each author have written fictional stories revealing street life, none of these stories hav glamorized this way of life, but have expressed to the readers, expecially the youth and young adults that living this lifestyle will not lead to any good it is a mirage of diaster.
The have also shown that if they are already caught up in this life style, that there is a way out of the game. These author's beat the odds, though they have lived that street life, via gangs, drugs, killing and prision. The game showed them that everyone can make a change for the better and they all have succeeded in becoming Best Selling authors. They do not glamorize this life style as they may have been accused of doing through the media or those who judge a book by the cover.
I feel that this is something that should be shared and C&B; Books is asking the online community to help us spread the word, Triple Crown Productions and others are making a difference in the communities and in the lives of those on the road to destruction and I feel they should be honored for their contribution.
To top that they are all best sellers in July we will dedicate our home page to Urban Writers, to include Teri Woods - True To The Game - Sistah Souljah - The Coldest Winter.

The Coldest Winter
Sister Souljah
True To The Game
Terri Woods
They have been critized in their efforts, however, I suggest that we not make the mistake of judging the book by the cover; or the person by their life experiences, but the book should be judged by the contents and the person by the contributions they bring to the world after making life changing decisions. We must learn to listen and not judge.
These authors have brought real street gangsta life to the literary world as a learning tool of what they may have survived and accomplished by leaving the Game behind.
Though the books are work of fiction there is much reality in each book. They will make you love, laugh and cry and pray that someone else will make it out of the Game as a result of reading these titles. Many will be able to identify with some; or all of the stories written by these authors
I will be sending this to as many of our contacts as possible to asked that they help us in promotion of these titles.
Coldest Winter - Sistah Souljah - True to The Game - Teri Woods - Be More Careful - Shannon Holmes - Let That Be The Reason - Vicki Stringer - they have been the Best Selling Fiction Titles on our website for the past year - - Gansta hit our site in October sales have been outstanding and increased in the past two months - Hustler's Wife was in March 2003 and now in highest in demand
These are not titles that everyone may pick up, but if you have teens, young adults or know of someone living this life, perhaps these stories may help save their lives. I highly recommend these titles for our youth. There is violence and sex, vulgarity and such, but we can't hide the light under the bushel any longer, we must let the light shine so that it will guide us and save our youth.

'Junebug' confronts touchy subject of mental illness
July 5, 2003
Junebug reminds me of Melvin, who befriended me during the final stages of the Vietnam War. Only Melvin didn't have as many personalities.
Still, Melvin was a sight to see. Bold, engaging, energetic, attractive, he had a gift for gabbing. Working as one of the lead cooks on the USS King moored at San Diego, Melvin could fix up a mess of scrambled eggs the likes of which few have tasted.
His chocolate-brown face seemed always poised to enliven the room with a broad, effervescent smile. Melvin helped dozens of bored sailors conquer many a long and lonely night at sea. That was especially true when Melvin was Melvin.
But when he was "somebody else," it was a different story. Melvin had at least one other personality, which made him less macho. He was just as likable while in Personality No. 2, but we could tell the difference. A distinct change occurred in the volume of his voice, mannerisms and temperament.
So, too, for Junebug, the main subject in Delores Thornton's engaging fiction, "Anybody Seen Junebug?"
"My name is Robert Turner, and I was born in Natchez, Mississippi, in 1953, the only child of Nat and Bonnie Turner," said Junebug, fixated within one of his five personalities. "I'm gonna tell you all about me," he said to his cellmate, John, "but don't ask me questions, and don't interrupt me. My story is a lot worse than yours, not taking nothing away from your sadness though. But at least you had some good days, some laughter, some love. The people in my story never had the luxury of such pleasant emotions."
Since both men are locked up together in prison, to John's dismay, he gets the opportunity to meet all five of Junebug's personalities: Besides Robert, there is Grandma, Chap and the twins, overbearing Elizabeth and the quiet one, Mary Beth -- all related.
John, who's in prison for setting fires, confused by Junebug's personalities, wanted to fight his cellmate when he caught him wearing painted fingernails. But before things get worse, "John discovers that it is not Junebug, but Elizabeth, one of the personalities, who has surfaced and is painting her nails red."
The family at the epicenter of Junebug's fictional personalities moved to Indianapolis from Valdosta, Ga., where Grandma was born in 1890. Grandma's story parallels that of millions of emancipated slaves just after Reconstruction.
Thornton writes of Grandma, matriarch of the Turner clan, as she sat stoically in her rocker weaving quilts: "My mama, Idelia, was born a slave on the Riedport Plantation. After freedom came, she spent a lot of time looking for my older sisters that had been sold off during slavery. I went to school to the third grade, then I dropped out and worked the tobacco fields. I met up with Chap Turner in 1920. This red piece here represents Chap. He was full of fire."
Junebug became mesmerized by Grandma's life as he listened to her stories about her late husband, whom she fondly recalled wore a black velvet hat so finely that it was "hard to tell where the hat stopped and his face started. He had that smooth jet-black shiny skin!"
"Ol' Chap was really something. He thought I was the smartest person alive," Grandma declared. "I was the first colored person that he ever knew that could read and write. I didn't think it was such a big thing, but Chap would have me write my name all day long. I tried to teach him, but he said he wasn't smart like me. But he did let me teach him how to count. I taught him how to count all the way to 75.
"Wasn't no need for a colored man to even count that far. They didn't live that long, they didn't have that much land, and they surely didn't have that much money."
Author Thornton believes that plenty of families are touched by people such as Melvin and Junebug, who eventually receives the help he needs. "Anybody Seen Junebug?" is the spin-off of her last book, "Babe." In "Junebug," she candidly explores the touchy subject of mental illness, to the great delight of her readers.

The Tablecloth
The brand new pastor and his wife, newly assigned to their first ministry, to reopen a church in suburban Brooklyn, arrived in early October excited about their opportunities. When they saw their church, it was very run down and needed much work. They set a goal to have everything done in time to have their first service on Christmas Eve.
They worked hard, repairing pews, plastering walls, painting, etc. and on Dec 18 were ahead of schedule and just about finished. On Dec 19 a terrible tempest - a driving rainstorm - hit the area and lasted for two days. On the
21st, the pastor went over to the church. His heart sank when he saw that the roof had leaked, causing a large area of plaster about
20 feet by 8 feet to fall off the front wall of the sanctuary just behind the pulpit, beginning about head high.
The pastor cleaned up the mess on the floor, and not knowing what else to do but postpone the Christmas Eve service, headed home. On the way he noticed that a local business was having a flea market type sale for charity so he stopped in. One of the items was a beautiful, handmade, ivory colored, crocheted tablecloth with exquisite work, fine colors and a Cross embroidered right in the center. It was just the right size to cover up the hole in the front wall. He bought it and headed back to the church.
By this time it had started to snow. An older woman running from the opposite direction was trying to catch the bus. She missed it. The pastor invited her to wait in the warm church for the next bus 45 minutes later.
She sat in a pew and paid no attention to the pastor while he got a ladder, hangers, etc., to put up the tablecloth as a wall tapestry.
The pastor could hardly believe how beautiful it looked and it covered up the entire problem area. Then he noticed the woman walking down the center aisle. Her face was like a sheet.
"Pastor," she asked, "where did you get that tablecloth?"
The pastor explained. The woman asked him to check the lower right corner to see if the initials, EBG were crocheted into it there. They were. These were the initials of the woman, and she had made this tablecloth 35 years before, in Austria. The woman could hardly believe it as the pastor told how he had just gotten the tablecloth.
The woman explained that before the war she and her husband were well-to-do people in Austria. When the Nazis came, she was forced to leave. Her husband was going to follow her the next week. She was captured, sent to prison and never saw her husband or her home again. The pastor wanted to give her the tablecloth; but she made the pastor keep it for the church.
The pastor insisted on driving her home, that was the least he could do. She lived on the other side of Staten Island and was only in Brooklyn for the day for a housecleaning job.
What a wonderful service they had on Christmas Eve. The church was almost full. The music and the spirit were great. At the end of the service, the pastor and his wife greeted everyone at the door and many said that they would return. One older man, whom the pastor recognized from the neighborhood, continued to sit in one of the pews and stare, and the pastor wondered why he wasn't leaving.
The man asked him where he got the tablecloth on the front wall because it was identical to one that his wife had made years ago when they lived in Austria before the war and how could there be two tablecloths so much alike?
He told the pastor how the Nazis came, how he forced his wife to flee for her safety, and he was supposed to follow her, but he was arrested and put in a prison. He never saw his wife or his home again all the
35 years in between.
The pastor asked him if he would allow him to take him for a little ride.
They drove to Staten Island and to the same house where the pastor had taken the woman three days earlier. He helped the man climb the three flights of stairs to the woman's apartment, knocked on the door and he saw the greatest Christmas reunion he could ever imagine.
